Eulogy

Can someone tell me if i miss her?
I seemed to have forgotten how to feel,
When torn between guilt and deceit,
It's all too confusing.
If only I can end it by merely closing my eyes.

Now that memories run with consequent pain,
Can you tell me how do you move on?
When everything reminds me of you,
How do i find my way
To the time when i used to wear a smile?

What do i say to the little hand that clasps mine?
"It's going to be okay because you still have me."
When all the while, I too,
Died along with you.

A Year-ender Reflection & Future Schematics

Although 2008 departed well for me, i am still a bit confused as i sit here in this so familiar room thinking about what to write. Maybe this is because there are still some hang-ups left by the past year or maybe i just had too much fun during my vacation in the province. As much as i would like to provide details of my 2008 journey for the purpose of keeping a permanent record of it, i now deemed it unecessary since this year is something that cannot be easily etched off from my mind.

What is left for me to do now is to share the lessons i learned from 2008. These are quite basic but when life gives you a problem, you often tend to forget these basic ideas since the problem itself is not always presented in black and white (Actually, i'm writing this down to remind me not to do this again.):
1. Love hurts.
2. You win some, you lose some.
3. Focus.
4. Forgive and forget.
5. Be proactive. Be positive.

As for the future plans for this site, i will try my best to work on some materials with lighter mood. I hope this year would make it easier for me to do just that. Some changes had been already put into place like the little description in the comment section for each articles to avoid any confusion. Some instances in the past compelled me to put up that little explanation thingy. I guess it worked. The whole purpose of this website is still unclear to me but one thing is sure though, this is not a story of my life.

I have to cut this short. My mind and heart is still in vacation. Anyway, let me end this with this vid:

Moonlight

Looking down searching for signs
Are you there beneath the city lights?
With a cigarette in one hand
As you revolve with haste and fall
In some stranger's arms?

The haziness of the night
Unravel the movement of silhouette
A series of lies from inception
Only ratiocinated
To have been blurred by terrible weather

Walking back to bed with the hope to fall asleep
In silence, in surrender, i'd let the rain fall
And if in sleep, I'd be able to run away from it all
I'll simply lie here forever in the dark.

Amidst the jovial play of lights
In tracing the loose ends which binds
The vows discarded, there are things that'll stay
Like the moon that shines on you at night
Even if it hides behind the clouds, it shines
Like the beating of the heart.

Plummet

Crawling towards the surface
Excruciating yet the desire to live overwhelms
The sound of breaking nails
The feel of your cold hands grabbing my feet
The future's dim
In your chemical mind, does a shout from nowhere
reverberate a sound?

It's so calm down here...
Loosen the grip and...
Plummet down with me.

With torn flesh!
I await the silver lining to all of these

With eyes tightly shut
Thinking of the things we did to survive
The right and the wrong
The wounds and sacrifices that resurface in debacles
For love, for faith, for others
To the point they'd walk away, I will always be here.

It's so calm down here...
Loosen the grip and...
Plummet down with me.

Stupefied and frozen!
I await the silver lining to all of these.

But what is the point
When everything else fades like smoke as fast as you exhale?
Alarming gentle snap
Silent yet the chills it sends to being
Looking down just to see a hypnotic abyss
Feet freely dangling, as you moved on without a scream.

It's so calm down here...
Loosen the grip and...
Plummet down.

A question hangs over the shoulders...
Where is the silver lining to all of these?

Mud

Cocooned...
hide away from the finger that points to this direction
Wait...
watch as it goes back fourfold
Like dirt...
sticking on the soles of your feet
Wait...
until it gets washed away.

Living another day
To rip open old wounds

Jump! Dive inside contradictions
Into inescapable web of irony
More riddles... bullets to kill
Noone but me.

Unless... these phrases form a notion
In itself to feed an obsession for oneself.

Come! Jump inside this construct,
In this inescapable web of irony
If you do see yourself,
Come on and rectify... Defile!

More riddles to feed...
The demons..
More riddles... bullets to kill
You and me.

In this puddle of mud,
The intention was to dance alone.

Absence

How long has it been? A month? Two months? Err.. I don't know. I can only count up to ten. I am supposed to show him my latest drawings. Oh! I can't wait to see his reaction when he sees this. He'll probably hand me one of those flattened caps of beer as if he's buying it from me using real money. Hmm... this time I'll sell this for ten caps. Yes! Ten caps! Oh he can't say no to this. I worked hard on this one especially the part of his eyes. I'll tease him he got crazy eyes that's why I'd sell this for ten crown caps. Hihi!

I can't forget the first time i saw those crazy eyes. He was pounding hard with a stone to flatten those crown caps when he noticed me sitting alone on the doorway and sketching stuff in my new notebook. Yes, I'm fond to draw things. I like to draw flowers, birds, and butterflies and sometimes people too but... not with those crazy eyes! Hihi! My teacher told me that I'd be a great painter someday. I guess i like the idea that's why I'm here outside every late afternoon to practice my new found talent. Anyway, I guess he was curious as to what i was doing. He approached me and attempted to take a look. Of course, i pulled it away from him. I do not know him yet. But then, without saying a word he offered me... 1...2...3 crown caps to let him see my sketch. I thought it was funny so i handed it to him. He was smiling while looking at it. I thought he was making fun of my drawing so i grabbed it away from him. But then he surprised me when he placed the three flattened crown caps beside me before leaving. He never spoke a word. Hmm... I guess he's too shy.

We have gotten close after that. And it has become our routine. Every afternoon, I'd sit here and draw. My new friend on the other hand, would play in front of our house with those caps while waiting for me to finish drawing. He hands me some of his caps before I allow him to see my work. Hmm... I was getting better with my drawings. My mom told me so. I guess he helped in some way. But he never said a word. He just smile and smile and smile. He is a weird kid. He's always smiling even though he sometimes have this scratches and purple spots on his arms. He is a weird and naughty kid but you know, he is my friend.

Hmm... he's still not here. I'm getting annoyed already. I have several drawings to show him and yet, he's not here. I'm so annoyed at him that's why i asked his mother the other day where'd he go. She told me he was sleeping. Hmp! I don't believe her. She got his slippers and shirts inside the plastic bag. I saw it. I'm sure he went somewhere he just didn't bother telling me. Hmp! I'm getting out of here. Those people playing some cards and making noises in front of their house is distracting me! Hmp! And that Crazy Eyes! He will never see this drawing until he gives up all his crown caps tomorrow! He didn't show up and I am already annoyed, that's why!

Centric

A nagging reaction, a statement carried across
A doubtful declaration of status.
Perceived to hurt, to put off, to subdue...
A fire? Hardly, not even a spark.

Whoever gave the idea that the world is you,
That the world only hear or see you
Must have her finger stuck on the delete button.
Abandoned. Yes, but perfectly still.

The world is not compressed in your palms
Nor it constitute the names or numbers in the list.
If you could make the world stop in dropping one of them,
I would have done so too a long time ago.

I heard news of apathy...
I know what it is...
But it never came to me...
That it will come from somebody i considered...
A friend.

Withering

Nothing.
Not even a snap.
When the tie breaks,
It let loose all the things it holds to the ground.

Nothing.
Not even a climactic soundtrack.
Like a thief,
It goes in and out without leaving a trace.

Deceitful bastard.
No matter how hard you hold it in your hand
Like sand,
It slips without a sound.

Nothing.
Not even a loud bang.
It breaks open doors,
Taking away schemes like a bad dream.

Nothing.
Not even a whisper.
Like raging waters,
It stormed off and with it, the premise you once believed in.

Deceitful bastard.
No matter how tight you hold it together
When it is bound to go,
It falls off
Like leaf blown by breeze..

or else... it withers.

With this prayer, I'm letting go
With genuine love, wish you well.
Scarred but not beaten.
Forget time, forget the sacrifices.

In the calming of storm,
When the waters gone dry,
That which moves us
The reason for being ceases.

Forget you, forget me.

In this withering...
We will be reborn.

Seven Cuts: Reunited

After over a decade in hibernation, 3 members of Seven Cuts gathered together for an afternoon jam session paving the way for the creation of the following music videos taken in a studio down in Espana. This is a rare opportunity so i am posting it here to commemorate the other members who have fallen busy and the songs that once united us and our batch. Bwahahaha! Rock on!

Jamming lang po eto ha... highschool pa last naming praktis kaya pagpasenshahan nyu na kung hindi angkop sa inyong panlasa. :)

Special thanks to Blanca for sharing these videos and for jamming with us too! You rock! =*

Candle

Entry for EPH Contest...

to follow...

A Troubling Poem

This is your story,
It ends where it started
Shackles and chairs
Unseen yet predicted.

In my sleep, I hear it
Like old butter squeezed
In stale bread and served
In foreplay of irony.

This is your love story
Hummed in tragedy
And no amount of jovial over tones
Can subdue the sound of cipher and fear.

Yes, they listen and pretend
Look happy to comfort
If asked whether this is about you,
I'd probably say no too.

Conjure my own tale
From your doubt, be set free
So that you can go on living
Happy in your sad little love story.

Rendition

To bring in a melody in these words
To tuck in the meaning and sugar coat
With the heavy strums of the guitar strings
And angry fast paced thud of drum beat
To further bury in unconventional melody
The once clearly conveyed is now obscured.

Sing it by heart, sing it sweet and loud
Aim high, let's go in circles as we drive the night away.
Slip in the note, smile as they applaud
The meaning getting lost in the melody
The meaning in discord with the harmony.

To bring in the secrets uttered in whispers
To serve as subterfuge to a simple scene
This is the best way i know you'll comprehend
If only i'm not maintaining a note higher,
You might just find me in futile attempt
To synchronize the heart and the lyrics.

But these are just wishes doomed to fade
Kick the seat back silently and sit up straight
Sing it sweet and sing it loud
As we drown the meaning through this song
I don't know what you have been told
But the world is not going to be put on hold...

For you... tonight... in this rendition.

Tremor

In between consciousness and sleep,
The heart beats sending the body in gentle sway.
A rhythm that forever seems consistent,
One more tick of the clock and i'll say i failed.

The resonating ringing in this hollow shell, only i can hear.
The words that fly across to mind, lost before fully grasped.
The firm yet strained contours on the forehead...
What?! Did you just say something... just say it again when i'm calm.

How many times did it blink and how many times did you blink?
Answer me... this is a matter of national security.
That sound... where is it coming from? will it ever end?
Your name suddenly popped up... Hey... are you watching me?

The heart beats only this time it's faster.
Not so certain if wide awake or fast asleep,
Must have been the thought of you behind the screen.
In between the rhythm that forever seems consistent,
The clock abruptly stops.

Pendulum

What moves you?
What keeps you to tirelessly hit
Back and forth, a punishment
As you kiss the rock solid surface.

What triggers you?
For how long will you be
In suspended animation,
A masterpiece in every swing.

The world works in a funny way,
The only way they will attend
Is when you finally learn to stop
Only to be pushed again.

This is who you are
Someone suspended in fixed support
Under influence, easily swayed
Go and break a leg.

Shatter

A fresh serving in the morning
A plain steaming statement in waiting
The meaning dissolved in darkness
Like sugar wildly stirred in coffee.

Undeterred ghost, though blinding
Savored the play of lights, fought to reflect
Though perfect... it shatters.
Can you hear? Right there behind the counter.

The fairest of them all, condemned to be the same.
Tolerate, as if it's the only thing sane.
The smile, the eyes, the one that parts those lips
Excused while she acts dazed to everything else.

Behind the chains, the pen and the paper,
The message that was clearly conveyed
Is now a mere ignored reflection of a shattered self.
The ghost? Now, gone deaf, mute and numb.

Seven Days Of Bad Luck: Day 6

Like an automaton, everything seemed to pass by me in a haze. I found myself sternly staring at the white paint, a horizontal line indicating a division between the pedestrian lane and the highway. I muse at the thought of what to become of me if i decide to step out of this safety zone. Nah. I wouldn't die. I'd only piss off more drivers who were already agitated at the way the traffic was moving. On the other hand, I might get lucky. Some schmuck might actually run me down, cut me in half, drag this flesh at least seven meters across the coarse concrete. With my guts out, that would be a dramatic conclusion to this so called life, wouldn't it? I wonder if she would cry. I wonder if they would cry. Would you cry?

As i put a foot forward, a car suddenly passed by me. Apparently, the driver was in a hurry. The fact that i was almost indeed ran over by some schmuck is not what really occupied me. It was the kid sitting beside the driver's seat. She looked like a younger version of someone i knew. The way she looked at me lingered in my mind. Her eyes were piercing as if she knew what i was about to do. Chills. I put my foot back. Oh! i guess not today.

Evening. A knock on the door prevented me from getting fully absorbed in the blinking nothingness of the computer screen's cursor. "Get dressed," he said.

Seven Days Of Bad Luck: Day 5

Day 5. A jolt of electricity on my left chest suddenly woke me up. I've been having these attacks for days now. It was still dark. The alarm clock stated 3:13 in the morning. With the lights still out, I let my hand feel something on the table overhead. Its destination was specific. The cellphone. I typed in "How are you now?" Long silence. "I'm still on meds," she said. I was utterly devastated. Noone's getting any better nowadays, I thought. "and you?", she continued. I feel sick to my stomach, feel fucked up for weeks, I've been called a loser, i've been treated like one, I can hear them laughing at me with their boisterous laughter and heavy footsteps. i wanted to tell her all these things but this won't help her case. What came out was, "i'm making progress."

An image of the blindfolded lady of justice holding a balancing scale on one hand and a sword on the other suddenly struck my mind. I weighed the circumstances, the pros and cons. but why is it that nothing seems to get any better... for both of us? Why do i feel that somewhere along the scale there is amiss? There is no justice lady! Only fucking choices! Oh God i wish you would cut off my head including the heads of the people who have forced me to make this decision that brought so much pain to her...and to me. That is justice. "Okay, you take care now. Bye", I said.

And just when i thought i have successfully excused myself, the phone rang. it was her. I choked. Heart felt constricted. I lost count as to how many miss calls had there been in the past weeks. A hundred? 150? I have no idea. All i know is that in every call she makes, my world is momentarily put on hold while the air around me seems suffocating. It is because in her every call, i'm forced to deliberately watch the cellphone ring until it stops vibrating. Not talking to her is such a killer. But i have to be steadfast for this whole thing to work. I have to be able to finally convince her that i don't love her anymore... that she's nothing. And soon, in the darkness of this room, i'll find me convincing myself that i can't go through it anymore. I can't. I might not survive to see the end of it. "I'm sorry," i uttered as if she can hear through that phone call that had expired minutes ago.

If you come to think of it, there is nothing really special about this week. No, the stars did not conspire to give me bad luck for seven days. Why? Because this scene has been playing even before i made that idiotic prediction. I've been playing the scene where i'm wallowing in pain, making sure that in everything i do and touch, i leave traces of my misery. If there is any different at all, that would be the fact that i'm getting better in making it worse as the days pass by. I've shared my story to others for the hope of alleviating myself of the pain, only for it to become a celebrated tragic love story in the end. Ironic. Now, i feel estranged.

Night Light

Ash fixed on the window sill,
A burnt deposit built for waiting
In summer, in silence, in the cold evenings
When was the last time you were here?

A light on the window sill
path is covered in fog, cold night
The wick hides in wax, in shame
As I spent days trailing the drops of rain

Down this chin, down the window sill

Ash fixed on the window sill

A burnt deposit gradually drifting
in passive surrender for days of trailing
the rain down this chin as the wick hides in waiting
for the fog to clear for the last time that you'll be here.

The Search For The Last Hero Of Zaraphina: The Battlefield

The Messenger:
Recoil... any moment now... steady...
Hold...
hold...
hold...
Go!

In my years of training in the Field of Tears
This blade i wield will crash your head to bits
To end the fears you caused in the minds and hearts
Of the men in this once glorious land

In this test of faith between light and dark,
If my skills won't suffice to a fate decided
Let this be a song of unwavering love and respect for the one
whose blood been spilled to end this war

Tonight, the elements will mix in blood and water,
Fire and earth, the sky I fly soaring high
Revolting, with strength and speed, I strike
In a manner that shall end this all!

The Menace:
Resistance is a waste for the worlds will burn tonight
With these hands, I'll crush everything that cross this path
Baptize in fire, grind in between
In fine, with your dreams and mine.

Alas! The tables have turned...
In my hands lies your fragile life...
Sword broken in desperation...
This battle is almost over.

The Innocents:
"Defensive shields are up and running, Captain...
This will hold him off for a few years or so...
It is a losing battle and if we do die
I want you to know that you have been a good friend
Although cut short... You've been a friend..."

The Menace:
We are almost at the end... Almost...
My hand stained with your blood...
Go home... They will miss you...
You have been worthy... they will miss you.

The Innocents:
"The last card has been drawn...
Torn into shreds... the hope gone...
But look! over the horizon!
The Lady stands between him and Destruction.

The Lady Of The Sanctuary:
Dear One, they didn't mean you harm,
I know you are hurting, i feel
You and I are one and the same
Taken away but not my doing.

Dear One, lay your guards down
If vengeance has not been sated
Take me in his stead.

The Innocents:
In his haste, his hate, between the bloodstained teeth
In his folly, he did not reminisce
That it was she... his heart incarnate and beating
That it was she... the Lady of the Sanctuary
His heart, his humanity, his life and his death.

Seven Days Of Bad Luck: Day 4

Day 4. Another night well spent on restlessness. I had to literally force myself to get up. I decided not to say "Fuck!" this morning. I felt like I had to avoid cussing too much. That way, my luck might just change. And the fact is, I didn't want another unsolicited lamely heated cup of coffee. No thanks. I'm gonna go through this day half asleep.

I got up and stood in front of the mirror for a while. If there is one good thing about this breakup is maybe the fact that i was able to finally lose some weight. Those trips to fancy restaurant, in some, way was inadvertently flushed somewhere. I have my cheekbones back but damn it! This pair of eyebags is a spoiler. I think i won't shave today. I look like shit anyway. Noone would notice it. The general outcome would still be, "He looks like shit."

Although, there was a drizzle outside, i decided to go to school for a change. My temerity to attend school despite the fact that i haven't read a page is motivated by the idea that i'd be seeing the china eyed girl sitting in front of me. Maybe this time, i can really look at her until my eyes fell off its sockets without fear that she-who-must-not-be-named would come from behind and knock my head off.

My daydreaming was interrupted when i felt uncomfortably hot inside the taxi. For some idiotic reason, my cab overheated. Half way in unzipping my favorite hooded gray sweater, i realized i forgot to wear a goddam shirt. Oh that was totally fucked up! the sun was up. Hence, i sweated like a fucking pig in a jeepney ride to school.

I noticed that the front gate of the institution was unusually bereft of bystanders when i arrived. I only realize later on that classes were suspended. I did not fucking inquire why. As long as it is suspended, that's what matters.

I did not manage to see the china eyed girl sitting in front of me that day but i managed to fucking find myself a cab with a freaking faulty air conditioning system on the way back home. Once again, i perspired like a swine in a pigsty. I gave him a huge amount of tip. No, it's not because the ride home was comfy but it was given as a token of gratitude for reminding me that this day is no exception to my seven day prophecy of bad luck.

Seven Days Of Bad Luck: Day 3

Day 3. I woke up with a sore hump on my temple. It sucks to think that this is one of the price i had to pay for loving someone, a nice round hump. Damn! Where's that freakin' aspirin?

Upon learning that i have already used up all the aspirin, i contented myself in firing up a cigarette. I pulled up the blinds to make sure i didn't miss the sun this time. Fuck! Feeling the unbearable sting in my eyes when the sudden rush of sunlight poured in the room, i almost burned myself when the lighted cigarette dropped on my goddam lap. I immediately rolled it back down. Now, aside from burning myself to death, what other productive things can i possibly do at this point in time?

Hmm..what if i go to school and hope to pass on this misery to someone else? But I haven't lifted a page. I'm pretty sure i'll be called if i report in class today since my prof is itching like a wild bitch in a hot summer afternoon to call me for recitation due to my number of absences. Well, what do i have to lose? I am a walking "L" word according to my sister-in-law's sister.

Lost in this nonsensical trail of thoughts, i found myself inside the classroom, armed with nothing but a pen and iPod tucked inside my side pocket. And indeed, like a wild bitch in a hot summer afternoon that he was, he called my fucking name. I stood up. "Do you agree?" He asked but his mind seemed to wander off somewhere.

What the fuck! I agree with what? I haven't heard a shit. I've been quietly dozing off at the back of the room and here you are asking me if i agree about some shit i didn't hear. Were you not paying attention sir? Of course, all these thoughts were nicely encapsulated in my simple and dignified reply, "No sir, i disagree."

"And why?" Good thing he yawned because i swear to God, i could have beaten him to it. This was hopeless. I am an empty incarnate vessel. Nothing. I am nothing. In desperation, i allowed myself what supposedly bright people do in cases like these. Eyes on the upper right corner of the eyes. Mouth half open. Look as if your into something... At this point, i heard the intro guitar for Pearl Jam's Black song, I think i was on the chorus that time:

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a sun
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Why can't it be mine

In desperation, i sang it loud and hard in my head. Over and over and over. I was bleeding. Somewhere, i'm pretty sure i was bleeding amidst the stares of the anticipating audience. I don't see any blood but i'm pretty sure i was bleeding from where i was standing. I am nothing. Cipher. Nada. Nihil. Zilch. Zero.

I think i spent the rest of the day standing up in shame with a fuckin lump on my head... i don't know. Who gives a fuck anyway?

Seven Days Of Bad Luck: Day 2

Day 2. I'm still feeling shitty so I greeted the morning with a crispy and resounding "Fuck!" and tried to get back to sleep when a few seconds later the door swung open. It was our maid handing me a cup of coffee. I asked her why. She retorted that she thought she heard me asking for coffee. Nice.

I was forced to sit back up and sip the lamely heated cup of coffee. I grudgingly stood up and walked in front of my PC, lost in the thought if there is in any way, this day be different from yesterday. I looked for my cellphone below the heap of junk for a possible sign that my luck indeed changed. Inbox. One message received. Yes! With renewed hope, i quickly opened it up. The message read: "You are cheating on me..." What the fuck! Can you hand me a dictionary please and pound it on my fucking head. I seem to have missed the definition of the term.

After regaining composure, i realized that i can't really blame her for thinking that way. Because lately, i haven't been telling her about the hell i'm going through. It's just too depressing. We've already had enough drama in our lives. I decided that it's best to just spend the rest of the day in slumber and hope not to wake up anymore.

6:18P.M. I peeped through between the spaces of the blinds and realized that i missed the sun again. I took a cigarette, lit it up and slumped back on the concrete wall. What now? I let off a sigh allowing the smoke to rush out my mouth and nostrils. My mind wandered on the past, asking why i wound up like this. I am a mess. Everybody thinks i am a mess. For how long have i been this way? Yea, it's quite different now that she's gone. But given the option whether or not to be with her, i'd rather be like this than to destroy both of us in the process. Let me be the one to rot here. And there it goes again. The pangs of pain came rushing in like a toxic chemical emitted by this weary heart. Why does it have to run in just one part of my vein? With full force, i thumped the wall with the back of my fist hoping this nightmare would stop. A muffled thud. Something gave in from above me and before i knew it, the acoustic guitar hanging on the wall conveniently fell on my head. Bang!

That must have hurt, i thought. But it didn't sting at all. I'm feeling numb inside and out. If the roof of this room would fall on me too, i wouldn't give a fuck. And it's just Day 2.

The Search For The Last Hero Of Zaraphina: The Sanctuary

The Messenger:
Lookin at the corner of my eyes
Tryin to save that sweetest smile
Can you hear me from all the way here?
The silence emanating between the sea that parts us

I wish we have more time
One minute past ten, i bid my goodbye
If only my world not consumed in fire
I'd stay here a while longer and dodge glances in poor attempt

But how can i reconcile?
Hiding in the safety of your sanctuary
When my world is falling apart
In bits, my dreams,
In ashes, carried away in the air

Is this a weakness?
My gauntlets are slipping off
My quiver empty...
The message undelivered

From my journey... I'm weary
Will you let me rest here for a while
In the tranquility of your sanctuary
Embrace me...

The Lady of the Sanctuary:
Stranger from a distant galaxy...
I am mourning your loss, i grieve
But i'm powerless
I'm afraid...
You're on your own.

Seven Days Of Bad Luck

When i woke up this morning, i knew right away that this is going to be a fucked up week. "How'd you know?", she asked. I told her i was a psychic. i laughed at myself in saying that but i'm still disoriented from lack of sleep so i didn't bother to take it back.

"i have so many things to do today", i absentmindedly told her while sipping a lamely heated cup of coffee. She wondered why i was not moving my ass off to prepare for the things that need attending. I simply reminded her that it is going to be a week of bad luck anyway, so why bother. i proceeded in deliberately brushing the topic aside by giving her compliments. She bought it.

We've been talking for days now. And in that brief period of time, i felt at ease talking to her. I told her everything, confide with her my troubles, why am i feeling shitty most of the time. I told her that i consider her as my sanctuary. And she liked it because according to her, it's closely knitted to the state of bliss. I wanted to protest but i guess, i'll let it pass.

Unmindful of the fact that i have to attend a presentation, i continued chatting with her about music, paintings, photographs, doodling heart shaped stuff. Yeah, it can't be denied. I'm feeling a strong attraction for this girl. However, since it is a self-proclaimed week of bad luck, it started happening. Somewhere in our conversation, i goddam blurted out if she would like to join me for dinner that night. And then goddam, take it back by saying, never mind.

"Why?", she asked. She was referring as to why i have taken back the proposal. i was dumbstruck. Not that i don't have any reason. The fact is, i have the perfect reason why i had to take it back. i was not inclined to say it for fear that it might hurt her in some way. It is a perfect reason, in the sense that i don't want her and the other people to think that i am bouncing since i just recently came out from a devastating relationship with someone. And the truth is... i'm still hurting.. It is perfect, in the sense that... i simply wanted for everything to be perfect this time. Do you get me? i panicked... and what a mistake that was.

I excused myself for the hope that she'd forget i ever asked. And since this is a week of bad luck, of course, i received from her a note saying, " I do not want to talk to you anymore."

In my frustration, i tore the calendar off the wall, took a pentel pen and scribbled a couple of straight lines across the next seven days including this very day. Talking to myself now, "I told you this is a week of bad luck. God should have goddam stricken this week off the calendar. And come to think of it... I am still stuck in Day One and six fucking days to go!"

We Shot The Sheriff

I bet that caught your attention. If there is such an award for The Worst Title Giver then, that would be me. You can ask Ma'am Shiela about that.

Anyway, I just would like to share how this whole project materialized since Roy is being so mysterious and all. He is the one hiding under the pseudonym iamweasel. He is one of my best friends since highschool. For some reason during his hibernation in the mountains, it dawned upon him the idea of getting into photography. For years, he trained in the mountains shooting birds, people, trees, clouds... i can hardly count the body bags! He did this all on his own. Well, at some point, he took a vocational course in photography for a few months. Here is the mugshot of the culprit with his so-called pearly white smile. If found, kindly return to Abigail.

It is amazing how three bottles of Red Horse beer can change a person's perspective over something. After downing my share of our elixir in one of our drinking marathon while staring at these alien materials in my hand, the words just struck me. It is all over the pictures. Can you see that? Can you feel it too? I felt the urge to write it down. I can't explain how it is exactly, but it is more like a trance for me. I liked it. Hence, here we are now in this Lil Dark Room.

As you may have noticed, we've done this for months, went on roadtrips, shoot here, shoot there. God! I lost count now as to how many body bags would there be if we were firing a live gun. It was only recently that we have decided to share this to others. We hope you enjoyed your visit. For sure, there will be more to come. I am expecting that one of our good friend would also join us here in this Lil Dark Room pretty soon. And at this point, i leave you with one of Bob Marley's songs...

Thanks guys! God Speed!

The Search For The Last Hero Of Zaraphina: Devil's Sonata

The Menace:
The wheels has been set in motion
The cork removed from this sturdy vessel
Arise the death machine, from the darkness
the time is now to rise from your slumber

Tearing the vestiges of the past
Feel the shockwave of anger and pulsating trauma
I've only wanted to feel that you really love me
But it is a blade that pierces between these ribs

Just like you i longed to touch, feel and breathe
Your fire consumed the remaining humanity in me
Is it deep enough or should i push it further?
Hush now, wipe those tears, soon this will be over

The Messenger:
Tell me something about this parable
Why have you come and destroy us all
Why have you come and shove us to our fall
What have we done to offend you in a way?

The Menace:
Oh I am not changing anything
It has always been the way it is
You're the one who created the monster in me
The day you took my love away from me

I've always thought that that this is something i can bear
But what you're doing is something no one can get used to
I thought my face being down in the mud is justified
But somehow this is something that only pigs can get used to

And now that there's nothing i can care about
I'll bring you all here with me
Coz there's nothing more i can care about
I'll just bring you all here with me

And when everything is pacified
See all the things that i defiled
And realize that it's just the same as if...
I've never.. been... here.

An Attempt To Synthesize Love And Reason: Episode 3.108

Just before you draw the line between right and wrong

And just before i step out of the bounds of reason
Let me conjure up the remaining sanity
To utter the words that could make even a little bit of sense
To everything that had just taken place...

In dealing with the intricacies of arriving to a consensus

How much tears shall we wage before we arrive to a truce?

In dealing with our plans to be together till the end

How many innocent shall fall to make fate bend?

In the attempt to synthesize love and reason.
Blood and tears i paid the price oh! i was the perfect fool
in your hands, the things i hold dear cast and vanish to oblivion
in the attempt to synthesize love and reason,
i lost her... yes, i lost her now.

In the four corners of this lil dark room..
I searched for you, my passion... my one obsession..

in my attempt to synthesize...
to love... to reason...
to feel... to live...

i lost her... yes, i lost her now...
i lost you...

i lost me.

Love Story

When i first saw her, i shooed her away. I hated it everytime that one eye of her stares blankly at me and moving her head from side to side as if asking what i am doing. up until now, i do not understand why she likes to stand behind my door. Goddamit! I hated it. She leaves an awful mess whenever i step out of the room. one day, i could not take it anymore. i hastily dragged her downstairs and outside the house with a stern warning that if she ever comes back in my life, i will have her kicked out of the house literally.

she cried days and nights. The funny thing is somehow, those muffled cries got into me. I felt sorry. And to make matters worse, i kinda felt that i missed her so i invited her in. when i opened the door, she jumped onto me as if i have been gone for centuries. yeah yeah... i hate to admit it but... i think i love my sister's one eyed dog now. that is my love story.

you... what have you done lately?

Who Am I

"Who am I?", an age-old question that even the greatest philosophers of our time can not provide even an ounce of persuasive response. Decartes in a seemingly inebriated state uttered "cogito ergo sum!" without a magic wand while Heraclitus got stuck on his "One and the Many" concept as their explanation. Several fields of study have been established, numerous treatises have been written, countries going to war, body counts increased, seas of blood and tears wasted just to be able to come up with the answer to this question, "Who am I?". There maybe some hints from here and there but still, these are not conclusive as to who I really am.

When I first encountered the question, I thought that this is elementary. But as I delve deeper in contemplation for a response to this question, realization struck me that I myself do not have the answer to this rudimentary query. So rudimentary indeed that the question is closely associated with the notion of Urstoff, a concept concerning a primordial matter raised by a supposedly inquisitive individual now long dead and gone. Yeah, he died without coming up with a really good answer goddamit!

Meanwhile, I found myself being a part of several academic institutions in my pursuit of my own answer to the question. I looked for the answer in philosophy and law and yet the answer to the question still escapes me. I also looked for it in music, sex, drugs, alcohol, piercings, mosh pits, fist fights but only to realize that these things only drew me farther and farther to my goal.

There are times that I only come to know about myself according to the perception of others. I learned that i used to have a girl's legs when i was younger from my grandma; that i sometimes snore when I sleep according to my girlfriend; that I drive like I am driving a funeral car according to my sister-in-law; that I looked like Kapitan Boom according to a text message from a psychotic ex days ago; that I am an ass sometimes according to my younger sister, so on and so forth. However, all these observation fails to explain the very essence of my existence. It failed to answer questions like why am i here in the first place? Why i react this way? What would I do to get from point A to point B? Why am I being an ass sometimes as alleged by my sister? Unlike other living and soulless creature or inanimate objects, why can't anyone predict my fate? measure potentials? Formulate a catalyst that can draw out a positive or negative response from me with pinpoint accuracy?

All the while i thought after being through with so much bullcrap in my life, i can come up with something that would entitle me to get at least a grace point for this endeavour. Well, i guess i failed. With a cigarette on one hand, I thought of what to say about my life.. about who i am.. I thought of it so hard that i can feel a vein fiercely throbbing over my forehead as if it's going to explode. Only to realize that i have been slapped on the face with the truth that after living life for several years, i may have a general idea of who i am like i am 27 years old, single, an owner of a one-eyed dog, a complacent post graduate student but the fact still remains that i have no idea who i really am... for all you and i know, i might just be Superman if i start wearing my brief outside my pants... which by the way, i am starting to seriously entertain now since it is raining hard outside and i do not want my jeans to get wet.

Beer Tragedy

Last night, i went out with some friends in Quattro Timog. We were on table D7. The table was a little messy. It showed some signs that somebody gobbled down a beer and for some reason unknown to me, seemed to have left in a hurry. i called the attention of the waiter in a mafioso manner like in the 80's movie (to quote our department manager). We ordered the quezon city's finest macho mags. Oh! the sight of red horse overflowing on the gigantic mugs. If only i could swim inside it, I'd be stripping down my clothes right there. I managed to keep my composure over the thought and savor the taste of beer in silence, leaving nothing but ice on the bottom of the mug.

Out of nowhere, this lady approached me. What a beautiful sight! She got these rosy cheeks and a smile embroidered in braces. She got a tattoo on her ass... yes, this is one thing that can get my eyes off my macho mug. I knew she would be selling me something. i knew it would be overpriced. I chanted this fact in my head over and over... until she began to lean over and speak closely on my ear.

"Sir, are you interested in buying this marlboro lights with free lighter..."

I am pretty sure she was still uttering something but i can't make out the words that came out after that for i was consumed with the lovely scent of her breath and the graceful movement of her mouth.

After that encounter, i found myself P100 poorer than ever and a lighter to remind me of my folly.

Letters

A growing obsession...
A yearning in every clicks and backspaces...
A wish for a glimpse...
Of that angelina jolie smile

A pop up message...
An indifferent news of three hundred...
A question of her disposition...
Behind that angelina jolie pose

A post for submission...
A silent wish waiting to be granted...
Sealed a prayer that behind the letters...
Behind the thoughts about unfamiliar territories...
That feelings would somehow be revealed.

A stifled feeling...
Like a renewed grace point in the morning...
None that a warning can kill...
None that a letter can tell.

What Is A True Writer

I just would like to share what i've written as an entry to a short essay writing contest by my boss. I don't know if i am allowed to do this but what that the heck! as if he got time to read this blog. Here goes:

I remember a story told by a lady professor of mine back in college about an award-winning literary piece and if my memory serves me right, it was entitled “A Bashful One”. She told us that the only thing written in that poem was the title and a plain period right in the middle of it. Upon hearing this, we laughed at first only then to realize that the message was quite clear. If the person uttered something on that poem then that would not make him or her a bashful one, is it not?

What then is the basis for being a true writer given that a simple punctuation mark can reveal so much to others? I opine that a true writer is one who can clearly and creatively convey his thoughts to the readers. All other things are just guidelines to be followed for purposes of convenience and order.

Colors of Manila Bay

It was by mere accident that I trampled and witnessed the magnificent and awesome beauty of the sun as it gradually slides down the border of Manila Bay. The fact that I did not have my camera with me at that moment, I was disheartened but then a firm resolution was formed that I shall capture the beauty I have just witnessed the following day.

Hoping to shoot the exact glorious world famous sunset at Manila bay that I have seen, I was dumbfounded and surprised to learn that what laid before me was yet another masterpiece... far different from what I hoped and expected to capture the day before.

Wondering if there is ever a day that the sunset of Manila Bay would present a replica of its previous presentation, I frequented the place only to realize that Nature mysteriously paints different masterpieces for each day, using different array of colors, different arrangement, different set of emotion and mood to avid onlookers silently sitting on the seawall. My quest to capture the colors of Manila Bay is a humbling experience for me. It led me to a realization that the sunset as best viewed in the said place is indeed an endearing reminder to all of us that God is present in nature... that he is an artist by heart... that God is a painter and Manila Bay is his canvas.

An Affair With An Angel

Going to mass before was not really my habit. I was not used to exposing myself especially in this bone-rattling evening. But I have heard that the six o’clock Mass is exciting because it is celebrated by energetic, expressive, and charismatic priest, fully charged with sense of humor. The priest is Father Ton. But nothing more excites me until I learned that the Mass is truly intended for teenagers like me. Unknown to everybody, I just wanted to hear the priest’s jokes and especially, I wanted to see and meet pretty ladies and nothing more. I have never ever expected that Sunday will be a memorable day for me… a memorable day of love, pain and faith.

One Sunday night, I was late for the six o’clock Mass. Inside the Church, the people were crowded together and all seats were occupied by church goers. I pushed through and insisted to look for some vacant seats but to no avail. I never found vacant chairs. I ended up standing beside the church’s window. It was raining heavily outside. Standing beside an open window is like standing in front of an air conditioner. Raindrops splashed on my face and drifted on my blue shirt. I felt the coldness creeping up and down my body. I was about to give up when someone called me.

“Mister”, called out by a gentle voice from behind. “I can see you’re wet. You can share the seat with me if you want to?”

“Praise the Lord! Alleluia!” Of course, I told myself. I don’t want to be the source of nuisance. I politely approached the lady who was offering her seat.

“Thank you”, I bashfully said as I sat beside her. She smiled and softly spoke, “Just pray you’ll not catch cold.”

I felt comfortable on my new cradle. I noticed that once in a while, the lady was glancing at me. I did catch her up. She saw that I was gazing at her too. She winced and immediately looked at the other direction.

The lady was not bad herself. In fact, she is beautiful. She got a pair of wondrously fine arched brows. She has these magnificent, mystical and soul-stirring brown eyes. Her nose having cute, fine curve, line glided down her red and elegant lips. Her white complexion manifested her fine reddish cheeks. Her simplicity had greatly showed all these. But what was really alluring about her was her smile. I noticed that she sings in great vivacity only to learn later on that I was sitting beside a member of the church choir.

“Let us give each other the sign of peace”, the priest invited.

I was thinking of knowing her and that moment was timely event for me to know her. I turned towards her and said;

“Peace be with you Miss…”, I intended to cut the word and expected her response.

“Andrea, Andrea Valdez”, she replied.

“What a gorgeous name!” I said giving of my sexiest smile. “I’m Ron Villegas down Calvin Drive.”

There was still a heavy downpour outside when the mass had ended. The streets were flooded and darkness began to clothe the place. I saw Andrea having trouble getting a taxi cab. I approached her.

“It’s hard to get a taxi cab in this kind of weather. I’ll be very happy to drive you home if you wish”, I assuredly uttered.

She looked at me with doubts and hesitations. “Shall I trust this guy?”

“Eh, ah, I want to repay you for your kindness,” I spoke awkwardly, “if not for you, I might have a flu or pneumonia, or bronchitis, or cancer, or…”, reciting all the possible diseases that might attack me which could cause my death.

“Ah, Ron”, she spoke at last.

“Yes”, I replied with a grin.

“Will you really take me home?” She shyly asked.

I smiled and said, “Yes, trust me.”

I am very fortunate to have a father who entrusted his BMW to a fifteen year old son like me. Though it was still heavily raining, I drifted towards the parking lot. It was like crossing a river bank. I stirred my car and drove towards the church’s façade and fetched the awaiting Andrea.

We talked so many things inside the car. Andrea had pretty clever stories. I learned that while she was still young, her grandmother used to bring her to church every day. I laughed at her when she told me that she wanted to become a nun. I didn’t believe what she said.

In the morning the rain subsided and everything went back to normal. The sun brightly shone in the east, spreading golden streaks to illuminate the whole land. The endless clear blue sky was a magnificent hall of infinity. I felt disturbed. I yearned for the angelic face of Andrea. I looked up the sky only to see utter emptiness. I have felt a strong desire of seeing her. Then I remember that she gave me her phone number. I called her up but she was not there. She was staying in their house in Dillon Ville to take care of her sick grandmother.

I thought of coming there. So, I brought some fresh flowers for Andrea and her grandmother. Andrea was sitting in the veranda watching passersby when she caught sight of me.

“What a pleasant surprise,” Andrea greeted. “Why are you here? How did you know this place?” she surprisingly asked me.

“I want to see you and see how’s your grandmother. I hope that you and your grandmother will be delighted with these flowers”, I explained as I handed over the flowers.

“How sweet!” she exclaimed.

“Would you like to come in?” she asked in jovial stress.

I felt a hush of energy enveloping my whole body, driving me to come in. But I was hesitant and a bit shy when Andrea suddenly hoisted my hand and confidently dragged me inside their house. She introduced me to her grandmother who was leisurely sitting on the sofa. Her grandmother looked fine and had recovered from her sickness. Andrea’s grandmother was very much pleased of my visit. We talked a jovial and sensible conversation. We all laughed. At times, her grandmother teased us of being a perfect match. Andrea blushed while I was whimsical.

Her grandmother’s house was very old but wondrously constructed. It reflected a magnificent, elegant and well build structure of simplicity and beauty. I was seized by so much amazement when Andrea toured me in their house. They had a family library with great books where the study hall was just adjacent. A serene and marvelously built mini-chapel near their garden mystically stood. Their collections of antiques and rare statutes were manifestations of deep appreciation for art and beauty. Expensive decorations and ornaments adorned their house. The furniture and fixtures were magnificently made and decorated. But nothing more amazed me than their awesome garden. It had a perfect landscape where lush and verdant meadows rested. Lilac, orchids, roses, bonsai and many rare species of flowers unknown to me where there. The garden looked like an oasis – a garden in a rainforest hundred years ago preserved and nurtured.

Even though Andrea didn’t tell me, I could sense that she was pleased with my visit. I felt that she was pleased with my visit. I felt that she enjoyed being with me and I felt the same too. That visit was not my last, I often came into their house. Sometimes, they invited me for dinner.

My day was not complete if I could not see her. We had happy days together until Andrea’s grandmother passed away. There was nothing I can do but to comfort her in those mournful moments in her life. I don’t know why I feel so sad every time I saw Andrea crying. There was a time she hugged me so tightly and cried on my shoulders. I let her pour out all her sorrows and pain. I knew it was good for her. Andrea’s sorrow has imprinted a pang of pain in my heart. I tried my best to make her happy. I promised to myself not to make her sad and lonely. Yes, I have fallen in love with her. I do love her and promised to seek her own good. I was young but I do love her.

One Sunday evening during the Mass, in a deeply sad tone Andrea told me, “Ron, I am leaving the town”, as she turned her head away from me. I almost shed tears in utter sorrow. I knew she was serious but I managed to keep my composure and said in a jovial mood, “so, where do you think you are going? Hongkong to shop…Las Vegas to…Why don’t?”

“Ron, Ron!”, Andrea uttered while looking at me intently, “I am leaving in order to serve God.” She looked at me tenderly and crystal drops of tears rolled down her cheeks. She looked at me tenderly and crystal drops of tears rolled down her cheeks.

“A nun?”, I sighed.

“I love you”, I muttered hoping that these words will hold her back.

“No, please don’t”. She stooped trying to hide the tears.

“Are those tears mean that you love me too?” I tenderly replied.

“Yes”, she answered sincerely, “but please don’t confuse me more. Yes, there is something here that I feel every time that I am with you. But God calls me since I was a little child and in fact this is for you, for my family, for all of them who need my help and prayers…please understand.”

“I do understand. I think there is nothing more I can do to hold you back. But are you sure?” I painfully uttered.

“Yes Ron”, she insisted.

I stood up and turned away from her. But she held my hand. I don’t like her seeing me downcast. I am supposed to be a cool dude. It’s like against my nature to be feeling that way and behaving so.

“Ron, please don’t blame God for this, okay? I love you so dearly but I do love Him more and I want to serve and follow Him. Promise me that you’ll also follow His will.” She softly begged while gently caressing my hair as if wanted to tame my feelings down.

I nodded. Silence clothed the two of us. The whisper like conversation of the priest and the parishioners in the sacristy and the hallow steps of the passersby were the only serenity of the altar. I sought appeasement there. I can see the angelic face of Andrea projected on the image of the lady saint in the altar. My mind and heart wrestled against each other. I wanted to shout and protest against God, but no voice went out of my throat. I can only feel the throbbing of my heart. Warm tears rolled down my cheeks.

“Ron…Ron”, Andrea moaned.

I can feel the intense affection she wanted to let me feel. She wanted me to lovingly accept that affection…even for the last time.

“Andrea…Andrea”, I softly uttered while tenderly holding her hand.

Distance between us vanished and we felt the unifying force. The feeling was almost unbearable. Distance was an agony. We rested in the sweetness of affection. Little by little, we drew closer to one another…and closer…and closer. What an indescribable feeling of love and affection I felt when our lips met. I realized that Andrea was part of me. Time stopped. All sounds ceased. What a sweet and ecstatic feeling we both shared.

I understand that she wanted me o feel her for the last time…to touch for the last time…to kiss for the last time. A kiss out of love – out of pure love!

Then we realized that we were inside the church. I never felt guilty because I did kiss her without malice but out of love and affection. She never regretted that act of love. I lifted up her chin and looked at her tenderly. She closed her eyes. An invitation for another encounter of that sweet and affectionate gesture. My face moved slowly towards her lips once more. Then we went out of the church. My steps were heavy but I still drove her home.

That night I couldn’t sleep. I thought of many things. I reminisced the past. All those sweet and beautiful memories were once again slated in my memory with sharp vividness. I cannot but utter Andrea’s name in great respect and longing while tears flooded my cheeks.

Before, I thought of romantic movies as baloney. But now, I realized that I am going baloney. I found myself waking up in the middle of the night craving for her presence. I awoke every morning with tearful eyes. Sometimes, I suddenly stirred my car towards their house. My heart trembled whenever I saw the deserted yard. I jumped over the fence and rolled down the lawn. Like a little child forsaken by his mother, I made a deep wail uttering her name. Her absence crippled me and I felt a sudden numbness. I found myself kneeling in front of their door begging God she would come back. I was all alone in that place where I found love and happiness before. But now, pain and frustration – bitterness! What I have had was taken away from me.

That experience had never stopped me from attending the Holy Mass. In fact, every time I attended Mass, I would always remember Andrea. I often sit on the seat we used to occupy before. In fact, whenever I attended Mass the “memory” of Andrea is truly present. She is in my heart and in my mind. Andrea and I had a very beautiful “love story”.

Years passed and attending the Holy Mass became my conscientious habit. At first, I attended Mass because of Andrea. But now, I attended Mass because of Him. A new feeling and enthusiasm had emerged deep within me. I have realized the most essential thing in life – the life in the Eucharist which is the source of happiness.

Now, my attention and whole consciousness is focused on the content and spirit of the Holy Eucharist. I have realized that the Holy Eucharist is the “Love Story” of God and man in the everlasting covenant of love. The Holy Mass is the sublime divine drama of life in which the love of God is manifested. In the Holy Mass, Christ is offered to the Father for the propitiation of our sins in an unbloody manner. What a great realization! The Holy Mass is the greatest Love Story ever told by God to man. Yes, because the Son of God offered Himself on the cross. He died a horrible death and has risen from the dead in order to save us! I have realized how great is the love of the Lord for all of us. And the Holy Mass is a constant remembering of “anamnesis” of that love. Because in the Holy Mass, Christ continually gives Himself to us as the Bread of Life that we partake. The Mass is the source of life and of love! Truly, “happy are those who are called to His banquet”.

“The Mass has ended, let us go to love and serve the Lord”, the priest exclaimed.

I peacefully walked out of the Cathedral. Inner peace and happiness flooded my whole being. As I reflected on all these things, I still remember Andrea. Andrea, the love of my life who has also given up her life to love and serve the Lord. Andrea who accompanied me to find Him through the Holy Eucharist. I still love her but I love her for the sake of the love of God. I cannot posses her because she is for God. I don’t feel pity for her and I should not be pitied for. I feel very happy for her because I know that our love is directed towards a higher cause – for the glory of God. I thanked the Lord because I did not hinder her goal of becoming a nun. Much more, that experience led me to a higher kind of love – the love of the Holy Eucharist which extends to the love of my neighbors.
